Vanessa Calthorpe shares her face-lift experience with WW:
“Three years ago, I was approached by a friend, who was looking for a candidate who might consider having a procedure or two, with a renowned plastic surgeon to freshen and brighten their look. I was deemed to be that perfect candidate, as having lead a very eventful life, it was now etched deeply in the lines of my face. Whilst feeling younger than my years, I looked much older, often leading to friends and acquaintances asking me the same question,” Are you ok ?, you look so exhausted, is everything alright ?
I decided to take action and visited several recommended surgeons, who might be able to help without making me look too different. There is still so much shame attached to us women who decide to hold back time for that little bit longer.
Peter Butler was the surgeon who I finally entrusted my old face to be rejuvenated by. His professional, friendly manner restored my confidence in the surgery which I was about to undergo. We decided after two consultations that I would have a SMAS lift with Platysmaplasty , a Chemical Peel and a fat transfer to nasolabial folds and perioral region. In layman’s terms, I needed to undergo a lower facelift, tightening my jaw line and removing the sagginess of my neck. Photographs were taken of my face and neck so I could see the before and after-effect.
It all sounds hugely vain and for a time I struggled with so many feelings of guilt, as I do not lead a lifestyle that requires me to look good. There are no cameras following me, picking up every facial defect, whether it be from endless days of being in the sun, without the proper protection or just living a life that wasn’t too healthy in my twenties! Emotional crisis’s, too many weight fluctuations, the odd cigarette, a cocktail too many, all the ingredients that would eventually end up with a face that screamed tired and old. I do not regret one moment of those days and nights and can honestly say now that I am still the same person inside but do feel and look so much better. Certainly better than I did before that initial meeting with Peter Butler. So many of us are ashamed to say that we have taken a few steps to maintain our beauty, with a little help from what is on offer and, there is a lot out there! I for one, have no qualms about telling anyone that might ask as I can not lie.”
Sadly Peter Butler, who we hold in high regard, no longer has a private practice but we contacted him and asked who he would recommend and he immediately suggested Simon Withey from LPSA. To find out more information about this procedure click here
